The Terminal List: Dark Wolf Episode 1 “Inherent Resolve” Gear Breakdown

All of the guns, knives, tomahawks, sunglasses, watches, shoes, books, gear and clothing used in The Terminal List: Dark Wolf Episode 1

The Terminal List: Dark Wolf (2025) follows Ben Edwards' journey from Navy SEAL to CIA paramilitary operator. This original prequel series begins as a military thriller and evolves into an international espionage epic as Ben delves deeper into the shadows, taking viewers seven years before the hit flagship series, The Terminal List (2022).

Taylor Kitsch reprises his role as the fan-favorite Ben Edwards, joined by returning actors Chris Pratt as James Reece, Jared Shaw as Boozer, and LaMonica Garrett as Cdr. Cox. The Terminal List: Dark Wolf boasts a stellar new cast, including Tom Hopper as the legendary Raife Hastings, Dar Salim as Mo Farooq, Luke Hemsworth as Jules Landry, Rona-lee Shimon as Eliza Parash, and Shiraz Tzarfati as Tal Varon.

Ben Edwards and SEAL Team 5 Charlie Platoon are sent on a mission to exchange an ISIS leader for the families of Charlie Platoon's Iraqi partners. After a series of tragic events, Edwards realizes they aren't making the difference they believe, and he takes matters into his own hands to effect lasting change. Separated from the brotherhood of the SEAL Teams, Ben conducts high-stakes covert missions across Europe. Dark Wolf is full of heart-pounding twists and turns as Ben discovers the true meaning of loyalty and betrayal.

GUNS

American Service Rifles

HK416

Members of Charlie and Alpha Platoons utilize the reliable HK416 in every operation featured in Episode 1. This platform's dependability is a key reason it is a workhorse for American Tier 1 units. They employ nearly identical rifle setups, including magnifiers and red dots from Eotech, lights and suppressors from Surefire, PEQ-15s from L3Harris, magazines, sights, and slings from Magpul, pistol grips and stocks from BCM, pressure switches from Unity Tactical, and foregrips from Tango Down.

Legendary Hollywood propmaster Gary Tuers, who sourced weapons for franchises like John Wick and Fast and Furious, returned for the Ben Edwards prequel. His team's work shines in every episode. Check out the Xtreme Props Instagram for insights into the decisions that went into using weapons as character development tools.

MK11

The Knights Armament MK11/SR25 is one of the most legendary platforms ever employed by Naval Special Warfare. The MK11 is favored for its higher magazine capacity and faster follow-up shots than a comparable bolt action weapon system.

Boozer, the Charlie Platoon sniper, uses the MK11 during sniper overwatch of the Al Jabouri exchange. He ends up employing this rifle multiple times throughout this epic fight. Fun fact: Boozer is played by Jared Shaw, a former Navy SEAL sniper.

MAGPUL pmag

COLT M4A1

Daran uses the Colt M4A1 rifle in The Terminal List: Dark Wolf Episode 1.

ISF Sgt. Daran Amiri carries the M4 during the Al Jabouri exchange mission. This weapon choice may reflect his efforts to imitate Ben or the ability to have largely interchangeable weapons while serving as Charlie Platoon’s interpreter.

M14

In the beginning of Episode 1, a ceremonial guard uses the M14 at the Alpha Platoon funerals. The M14 is still used in ceremonies due to its visual appeal and standard manual of arms.

Pistols

P226/MK25

Ben carries the legendary SIG P226/MK25 with a Surefire X300 throughout Episode 1. At the end of the episode, Ben uses this weapon to turn the tables and completely change the course of the series.

Ben also carries the P226/MK25 without a light during the mid-episode mission into Mosul. Other members of Charlie and Alpha Platoon can also be seen carrying this platform throughout Episode 1.

KIMBER Desert Warrior

Boozer can be seen with a Kimber 1911 in his holster and at the ready while on sniper overwatch. In the flagship series, the involvement or lack of involvement of Boozer’s 1911 validates James Reece’s intuition that his team may have been unknowingly involved in a greater conspiracy,

MACHINE guns

M2 Browning .50 cal

Multiple M2’s can be seen mounted on Humvee’s throughout this episode. One of the most awesome scenes from Episode 1 is when Charlie Platoon commander Raife Hastings jumps on the fifty cal when an Iraqi soldier goes down. This decision reflects the emphasis of exploiting every technical and tactical advantage on the battlefield.

M249 SAW Paratrooper

Smitty, one of James Reece’s Alpha Platoon SEALs and an HRT operator from the flagship series, carries the M249 during the final operation of Episode 1.

MK 48 Mod 0

Fletcher employs the legendary MK 48 against ISIS fighters on the Mosul bridge. This belt-fed machine gun was developed specifically to fit the needs of USSOCOM.

Multiple ISIS fighters in Mosul employ PKMs against Ben’s team. They can be seen mounted on an armored vehicle and on trucks in what is sometimes referred to as a “technical.“

M240B

The M240 can be seen mounted on humvee’s and mounted on the ISF boats on the Tigris River.

Anti-tank and explosive Weapons

RPG-7

An ISIS fighter targets Charlie Platoon with a Ruchnoy Protivotankovy Granatomyot(RPG) during the bridge fight. This Russian manufactured weapon has been used by many militaries across the globe to great devestation.

James Reece utilizes this frag grenade to eliminated a barricaded shooter in Al Jabouri’s compound.

BLADES

WINKLER SAYOC RND Full Size Axe

James Reece carries his signature weapon—the Winkler tomahawk on his belt in Episode 1. This tool later plays a major role in one of the most chilling shots from all of Dark Wolf. Fans of The Terminal List will recognize this tomahawk from the flagship series and all seven James Reece thrillers.

Winkler is famous for their high quality blades that are highly sought after due to their use by the Army and Navy’s Tier 1 units. If you need an excuse to pick up one of these tomahawks, Jack Carr has said that “Every American needs one.“ This Winkler axe is high on my wishlist.

Pinewood Project CSK

Ben carries the Pinewood Project Combat Survival Knife on his gun belt throughout Episode 1. The CSK is a simple but deadly blade.

Pinewood project MK1 V2 Leaf

Raife Hastings has the Pinewood Project MK1 V2 Leaf on his plate carrier during multiple operations in Episode 1. Pinewood Project’s knives are built to order insuring the highest quality for when it truly matters. I’ll be keeping my eye on these.

African Sporting Creations Dagga Boy

Raife also carries the African Sporting Creations Dagga Boy on his gun belt. This blade calls back to his Rhodesian heritage with a handle made of warthog tusk and Cape buffalo bone. The Dagga Boy gets to shine in Episode 5.

VEHICLES

MH-6 Little Bird

The MH-6 Little Bird can be seen providing overwatch during the Al Jabouri exchange. This platform is favored for special operations due to its maneuverability and versatility.

RHIB

A couple ISF Rigid-Hull Inflatable Boats(RHIB) provide transport for Charlie Platoon and their Iraqi partner force to the Mosul bridge. They came by water in order to avoid ISIS checkpoints.

SAFIR Tactical Truck

The Toyota Landcruiser is favored the world over for its unmatched reliability and off-road capability. Jack Carr, the creator of The Terminal List, has a well known affinity for Landcruisers that bleeds onto the pages of his books. James Reece's signature vehicle is the FJ62, which is highlighted in the flagship series.

KIT & CLOTHING

Charlie and Alpha Platoon’s gear is nearly identical to what some SEAL Teams have been seen wearing during this time period in Iraq.

WATCHES & ACCESSORIEs

Casio G-shock dw6900-1v

G-Shock watches are the essential tool watch. Many military units issue G-Shocks for their utility and durability. Ben and Boozer appear to wear the same G-Shock. Ben wears his on a paracord band and Boozer wears his inside of his wrist. Watches of Espionage has an interesting article on this particular topic.

REsco blackfrog

James Reece and Cdr. Cox both wear Resco timepieces in Dark Wolf. Reece rocks the Blackfrog while Cox sports the Manus. Resco Instruments is a SEAL owned company that makes exceptional tools. Reece also wears a Blackfrog in the flagship series.

MTM Special Ops Black Vulture

Arabic Seiko 5

Mo Farooq wears an Arabic Seiko 5 on a NATO strap. This choice is perfect for his character. Seiko is often reffered to as the Toyota of the watch world for their unmatched function. They just work. This watch rose in popularity largely because of Watches of Espionage and is often associated with the Watches of Espionage movement. I can personally attest to the quality of this timepiece.

vietnam era waltham wrist compass

James Reece’s father Tom gifts this Vietnam-era Waltham compass to Raife Hastings. This military issue compass was worn by Tom Reece while serving with MACV-SOG and the SEAL Teams. Jack Carr’s first Tom Reece book, Cry Havoc, and Dark Wolf were in various stages of development at the same time. There are a handful of connections between Cry Havoc and Dark Wolf that offer surprises to readers and viewers alike. This particular piece was sourced by DC Vintage Watches.

Garmin instinct tactical

Cortese wears a Garmin Instinct Tactical, which has recently become a favorite of tactical professionals for its rugged structure and unmatched versatility. From GPS and stealth modes to jumpmaster, night vision, fitness tracking, and satellite communications, Garmins offer a limitless amount of tools. They seem to have largely replaced G-Shocks as the military's preferred digital watch.

Gatorz Wraptor

The iconic shape of Gatorz wraparound shades will forever be associated with American special operations. Gatorz eyewear were largely chosen for the added protection and security the flexible aluminum frame provides during military freefall. These cool-looking shades became part of SEAL culture and were therefore adopted by many SOF units and subsequently the rest of the military.

BOOKS

Once An Eagle

James Reece calls this “One of the most significant books on military leadership,” and he is right. Once an Eagle is on most military leadership reading lists for its timeless wisdom on servant leadership. This book is also Jack Carr’s most recommended and gifted book. This particular copy is a first edition. Immediately after this episode premiered on August 27th, Once an Eagle was nearly cleared from the shelves of both first and second-hand online bookstores, which has increased the value of hardcovers almost ten times. Fortunately, I was able to procure a couple of first editions in the weeks leading up to the premiere. Two different versions of Once an Eagle can also be seen in the intro sequence of the flagship series.

The terminal list

The book that started it all.

The Terminal List is Jack Carr’s first book and the basis of the hit Prime Video series. It follows Navy SEAL Commander James Reece who his hit with devastating loss on the battlefield and the home front. He is sent on a path of vengeance when he gets wind of a conspiracy. If you want more James Reece, Ben Edwards and Boozer, pick up a copy now!

true believer

True Believer follows James Reece’s path to redemption from the Atlantic Ocean to South Africa, Morocco and Ukraine. His journey from SEAL to CIA paramilitary operator is kicked off when his former Iraqi teammate Mo Farooq lands in the crosshairs of multiple intelligence services. Other characters from True Believer who also appear in Dark Wolf include Jules Landry and the Hastings family. The Terminal List Season 2 which recently wrapped up filming is based on True Believer and heavily set up by Dark Wolf.

savage son

If you watched Dark Wolf and thought that Raife Hastings is the coolest character to ever grace the screen(you may be right), you will LOVE Savage Son. This thriller inspired by the classic The Most Dangerous Game is a fan favorite for a reason. This breakneck paced epic follows former college roommates and blood brothers Raife Hastings and James Reece race against the clock to rescue a missing loved one and discover a sinister scheme is to blame. Some stories are begging to be told. Savage Son is one of those.

Cry Havoc

Don’t know where to jump into the Terminal List literary universe? Look no further than Cry Havoc.

In Cry Havoc, James Reece’s father, Tom, operates among the ranks of the legendary Military Assistance Command-Vietnam Studies and Observations Group conducting covert missions deep in denied territory. Driven by this responsibility to his brothers in arms, Tom pushes deeper into the shadows of espionage. This Vietnam centric Time Machine is one of the most impressive novels ever written. If you don’t pick this book up, you’re missing out.

I’ve been told that Cry Havoc might be the next Jack Carr book to enter Hollywood pre-production.

While Dark Wolf is not based upon a book, many characters and parallels are drawn from Jack Carr’s works. Jack Carr has spoken of following David Morell’s steps with the novelization of the Rambo movies and publish a novelization of Season 1 and the potential Season 2 of Dark Wolf to coincide with Season 2’s premiere.
